A 2004 graduate of NC State University, Stiles grew up in Sanford NC with the maiden name, Pomeranz. After graduation she competed on the Duramed Futures Tour for two (2) seasons until moving to Ponte Vedra, Florida where she began work with the PGA TOUR in 2006. In 2010, she moved to St. Simons Island GA to assist the PGA TOUR in operations of The McGladrey Classic, an official PGA TOUR event hosted by Davis Love III. There her passion for nonprofits and especially youth focused programs flourished. With the support and encouragement of the Love family, Courtney laid the leg work to start a new chapter of The First Tee in Southeast Georgia. Last February (2015) Courtney’s family had the opportunity to move ‘back home’ to Pinehurst where she took over as the Executive Director of The First Tee of the Sandhills. Courtney and husband Cole, married for 9 yrs, have two (2) children, Palmer and Parker, age 7 and 3 respectively.
A native of Ft. Rucker, Alabama, Matthew grew up immersed in an Army Aviation community, as his father was a pilot and mother to this day teaches on base. He was passionate about baseball and had the opportunity to play in college! After multiple knee surgeries and a shoulder surgery, Matt was forced to forego competitive baseball and transferred to Auburn University where he earned a degree in teaching while celebrating some Auburn Football victories! While at Auburn, golf became Matt’s new hobby and passion. After receiving his degree, Matthew decided to move back to his parent’s former state for a milder climate, and to take a job working with adjudicated juveniles at a residential boy’s camp. He has been working there since September of 2013, and found The First Tee of the Sandhills, while looking for extra-curricular activities for his youth at work to become involved in. After 2 seasons of volunteering, Coach Matt decided to take a more active role and become a lead coach. He currently resides in Seven Lakes, and never wants to move because of all the amazing golf courses that surround him combined with the active and retired military members that remind him of home.
Our chapter is one of many in The First Tee network. The First Tee is reaching young people in all 50 states and select international locations on golf courses, in elementary schools and through other youth-serving organizations.
